
What are carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are SUGARS. They come in these two forms…. SIMPLE AND COMPLEX. The difference between them is to do with how QUICKLY they are absorbed and digested , and also their chemical structure.
Simple Carbohydrates are foods such as white bread, white pasta, croissants, pastries, fruit juices, cookies, muffins, chips…. they are broken down quickly, give a quicker spike in energy… which then leaves the individual feeling slumped not long after and tired.
Complex Carbohydrates are foods such as brown bread, brown pasta, sweet potato, quinoa, vegetables, nuts, seeds. These take longer to break down, so give you a longer release of energy , making you feel fuller for longer and better fuel for your body.
Many people try to cut carbs out of their diet when it comes to weight loss, toning etc… to try to reach their fitness goals.. but the truth is it’s about being educated about the types of carbs, and finding the right ones. Many of us when we have tried to cut carbs out of our diet tend to become moody, tired and fed up. Carbohydrates are a PRIMARY source of energy for our bodies.
Complex carbs provide our bodies with fibre. Including regularly whole grains, fiber rich fruits, fiber rich vegetables, beans etc, you are fuelling your body in a much better way , and also reaping the massive health benefits too!
