A lot of the time I hear about clients struggling with motivation … feel they have no get up and go… why is this?
Well quite simply .. we seek motivation to carry out tasks that we feel we do not want to do. When we do things we WANT to do… we don’t need a kick up the ass really do we?
When it comes to training/exercise it’s about finding what works for us as an individual.. what we enjoy … this way it’s a lot easier and more enjoyable for us to adhere to new lifestyle changes and our goals.
For example… if you hate running for cardio? DONT DO IT. If you prefer boxing… take up boxing ? If you prefer cycling.. take up spinning or invest in a bike. If your prefer training as a group … find group classes… find things you ENJOY. This way, you will meet your goals and adhere to them.
There are two types of MOTIVATION.
EXTRINSIC – Feels forced.
INTRINSIC – This is when we do it because it’s on a personal level. It comes naturally.
The point is , it’s in our nature to stick to things that we like and enjoy. If we use extrinsic motivation … this can leave us feeling down, low mood, depressed, anxious.
So to sum up this quick post about motivation.. find what you ENJOY. Have a think about it., go back to the drawing board. As a trainer I will not force you to do things you don’t enjoy.. I want you to enjoy the process … enjoy the journey.
